Hello Everyone! I am a student in the Disability Studies program at Vancouver Island University, and I’m really interested in learning about employment. As part of my program I am doing a research project, and am looking for family members who are willing to complete an online survey to help me discover the impact the “Job Impact” blog has had on their attitudes towards employment for their loved ones with disabilities.
If YOU are interested in participating in this survey, below are a few more details about the process, the minimal risks, and the outcomes of this research.
The research question I am working towards answering is, “How does reading inspiring stories posted on an online blog about individuals with disabilities finding and maintaining employment impact the attitudes of family members of individuals with disabilities and how do these changes in attitude impact the ways they support their family members when it comes to employment.”
To be a participant in this study, you must actively read the “Job Impact” blog, be over 18 years of age, and have family members with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities who have an interest in becoming a part of the workforce. The first question of the survey will be your opportunity to consent to these terms of participation, though you can withdraw at any point throughout the survey with no repercussions.
Participation in this study will be completely anonymous and confidential. All survey data will be stored by SimpleSurvey, a Canadian based survey database that only the student researcher has access to and by November 1st, 2017, all survey data will be destroyed.
I would like to point out that it is possible that participation in this survey could cause some emotional distress if you are not satisfied with the employment status of your family member with a disability. If this occurs, feel free to withdraw from the study at any time. If you suffer lasting emotional effects please contact me and I will refer you to the proper counseling services in your area.
Your responses will be extremely helpful when it comes to writing my report that will be shared with the Family Support Institute of BC as well as my instructor Janet Newbury at Vancouver Island University.
If you have some free time and would be willing to share your insight, please click on the link below which will take you to the survey. Surveys should take approximately 30 minutes of your time and must be completed by March 31st.
Your time and input is very much appreciated!
